Sets the maximum amount your insurer pays per day for your hospital room. If you stay in a room that costs more than this limit, your insurer may also reduce what they pay on your other hospital bills - like doctor fees and surgery charges - not just the room cost. Plans with no room rent cap give you the most protection.

On Classic plan, claiming any room category above General Ward costs you 20% to 50% of the whole admissible claim. On a Rs 4,00,000 hospital stay at the 40% band, you pay Rs 1,60,000 from your own pocket.

Star Health
If you buy Room Rent Modification and then take a room above the category you chose, the insurer pays your professional fees, operation theatre charges and procedure charges only in proportion to the room rent it allows. You pay the rest from your own pocket.

The stay has to be a hospital admission of at least 24 hours to count as hospitalisation, unless it is a day care procedure. Room rent is defined here to include associated medical expenses, so those charges are paid from the same Sum Insured.
